Kathy Doerksen

    My current and past professions.

I am currently working as the Program Manager for Anti-Poverty, Advocacy, Legal Aid and Addictions Division at Abbotsford Community Services. I am also involved with the BC Association of Community Response Networks and do presentations and training around issues of adult abuse. My past profession(s) are: elementary school teacher.

    Why I joined Soroptimist.

I was asked to join the Soroptimist Club of Mission and Abbotsford by my Executive Director at Abbotsford Community Services. Our agency receives funding for various programs we deliver (e.g. Meals on Wheels, Food Bank, New Beginnings, Family Centre) so the Soroptimist Club wanted a member from our organization. After I joined, I became intrigued with the local, national and international projects the club supports. The projects support my values and desire to support things that empower women and girls.

What I like best about being a member.

    • Meeting new people.
    • Soroptimist’s International presence and agenda
    • Working together with other like-minded women
    • Having fun!
