Rita Mackenzie

My current and past professions.

I became a permanent resident of Canada seven years ago from the US. I have a strong background in Health & Wellness, having worked as a licensed massage therapist for 15 years prior, working with chiropractors, hospitals, spas and in the most recent past, my own business in the home spa industry. My interest has always been in women’s health and women’s issues in general. Working with woman and girls is something I’ve done all my lie.  I started out at 7 years old  belonging to a girls organization and later as a volunteer leading girls clubs and teaching self reliant courses.  My day job currently is  the administrator for our family owned business, Fraser Valley Truck Parts.

Why I joined Soroptimist.

I first joined Soroptimist International of Burlington Washington in 1996. I was fairly new to the community and just beginning my career in holistic health. I wanted to focus on bettering the lives of women and girls and Soroptimist was exactly the place to be! I am forever grateful for my neighbor and friend, Lori Schneider, for inviting me to a club meeting.

What I like best about being a member.

It brings me great pleasure to belong to Soroptimist International of Abbotsford/ Mission and to be part of the Western Canada Region. The friendships I have made here will no doubt last a lifetime. Being active in my community and giving back is important to me, it really defines who I am.  Being a member of Soroptimist , I feel fulfilled knowing that I have something to give. Soroptimist offers an amazing opportunity for women to serve their communities locally as well as offering opportunities to serve our global communities.  When I see the positive changes in the lives of the women and girls that have been affected by our efforts right here in our own community and in other countries around the world, it makes me realize that although I alone cannot make change happen, I can be part of a worldwide force that does!  My life’s purpose is to contribute in any way I can to uplift women, and help them realize they have the resources to make their dreams a reality.  “The World Will Be Saved By the Western Woman” ~ Dalai Lama
