Who We Are

We are a global volunteer organization working to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

The name Soroptimist was coined from the Latin soror meaning sister, and optima meaning best. Soroptimist is perhaps best interpreted as ‘the best for women’. From the founding of the first Soroptimist club in Oakland, California, in 1921, through to the present day where over 3000 clubs are flourishing throughout the world, Soroptimists have continued to strive to achieve ‘the best for women’ in every sphere of their lives.

SOROPTIMIST is an international volunteer organization for  women who want to improve the lives of women and girls, in our local communities and throughout the world.

SOROPTIMIST means “best for women”.  That is exactly what we are – women at our best helping other women to be their best!

SOROPTIMIST are women who wish to give back to their communities in an atmosphere of fun and friendship.

Today, nearly 100,000 Soroptimist in more than 120 countries and territories contribute their time and financial support to community based projects benefiting women and girls.

We are  women at our best helping other women to be their best!  Soroptimist International of Abbotsford-Mission was chartered in 1981 and has been active in both communities since that time.

The Abbotsford-Mission club has a membership of over 20 women who participate in a variety of community projects, regular business meetings, committee meetings and fun social functions.

Our club members were the proud hosts of the Western Canada Region Conference in Abbotsford in 2014!
